Wowza

Well, I found this after a friend suggested I search out Manhattan Mini Storage Ads, and this was probably the most shocking out of all of them. Manhattan Mini Storage tends to have ads that could be called controversial, and many of them have not-so-subtle left-leaning political messages embedded in them. I like this ad because, first of all, it is obviously supposed to be extremely provocative, and second, because it is a local ad, I think it may tell us something about the state of what is acceptable in New York vs. the rest of the country. The whole double-entendre of the coat hanger is just so wonderfully horrible, I couldn't resist...prettaaaaaay prettaaaaaaay pretttaaaaaaaaay interesting.

  1. Yeah the hanger is a little graphic -- I'm all for appealing to you audience (social liberalism in the case of affluent new yorkers who have so much shit, they'll pay to put it somewhere else) but the jump from over-flowing closets to the issue of abortion seems more than a little forced and disingenuous; as someone who has used Manhattan Mini Storage (and might fit into this ads interpolated audience) I can't help but be offended by this ads utter lack of imagination.

  3. I completely follow the connection of a clothes hanging for storing your coats and for uh... abortion. But why? I mean, I feel like it is not a very effective ad. Sure, people will talk about it, but I feel as if it gives Manhattan Mini Storage a negative association.
