Gilmore Girls Thesis
The witty and quirky character of Lorelai Gilmore is consistently shown as a strong, free-spirited woman who, despite having to deal with the obstacles of having a child out of wedlock as a teenager, has led a happy and successful life as someone who is loved by her small town and as the mother of a bright and intelligent daughter who is now her best friend. However, in the heart-wrenching episode Incredible Sinking Lorelais, our ideologies of single mother parenting are reaffirmed as Lorelai struggles to financially support herself and her daughter and is stricken with the stress of not having a partner to alleviate some of the hardships that come along with single parenting.
