Originally I wanted to write about Bree, but after some thinking I decided I wanted to write about either Gaby or Lynette since they're my favorite characters. Ultimately, I decided I wanted to write about Lynette Scavo--yes, the wife of Tom Scavo who Brianna is writing about! (Wait, is that okay?) Lynette Scavo is a wife and hard-working mother of 4 children (and twins on the way!). She takes care of almost everything in the house, including chores and bringing dinner to the table while her husband is taking college courses.
In this episode, "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid," Lynette has hired her friend's boyfriend to help around and he disagrees with how much control she has with things around the house, revealing Lynette's personalities and needs as the woMAN of the family.
Actually I don't know if I want to do that episode or a later one, "The God-Why-Don't-You-Love-Me Blues" where Lynette is told to close a deal with a company over dinner with her new breasts (from her pregnancy, though her boss doesn't know that's the reason). I'll probably use the first one..

Wow! Desperate Housewives is quite a popular show for this paper! I don't think I've seen it since like... its second season? What season is it on now?
ReplyDeleteAs I said in class, it's totally fine to pick a show your classmate is also writing about. Desperate Housewives is an interesting show b/c it's written by a gay man who's a conservative Republican!
ReplyDeleteThe first one is really good! Just watched that episode the other day. Blatant display of power struggle.
ReplyDeleteLynette is my fav. Her binary opposite in the show would probably have to be Gabriella, who is a spoiled housewife who spends her husband's money whereas Lynette is a successful business woman who definitely wears the pants in the relationship and earns more money than her husband, which creates a very interesting dynamic between the two of them that has been touched upon in a few eipsodes.
