Dyer’s article, “White,” discusses the media’s portrayal of whites when compared to the black “others.” Whites are seen as dominant, powerful and controlling while the blacks are seen as backward and subordinate. However, Dyer also mentions that in some way or other, although whites are in a position of power, they also rely on help from blacks.

After reading this article, I saw the preview for the new Sandra Bullock movie, “The Blind Side,” which depicts a developing relationship between a well-to-do white family and an unfortunate, underprivileged black character.

The movie shows white dominance as the black character is taken in by Bullock’s family to be provided a better life. The trailer shows the white dependence on blacks as it is obvious that the once pitied character plays an integral role in the unifying of the white family.
