The characters of Wisteria Lane were not exempt from feeling the economic downturn. After the closing of Scavo’s Pizzeria, Tom is forced to job hunt. Originally unenthusiastic about the new venture, Tom livens up as soon as Lynette challenges him for the position. This episode shows a great deal about gender and power differentials. Within the course of one episode, Tom’s character follows the dominant ideology and breaks it. This episode exists within the show’s 5th season and is titled, “Crime Doesn’t Play.”

Tom Scavo is my favorite husband! I think you've picked an excellent episode to analyze his character as a man who feels emasculated just because his wife has more control and feels the need to compete. :)
